Social Events at the Workshop

Both the welcome reception (Monday evening) and the banquet (Wednesday evening) will be held in Oriel College, the reception in the middle quad and the banquet in the dining hall.

The college is an easy walk from St Anne's. A suitable route can be found courtesy of Google Maps. A nicer route is to leave St Anne's via the rear gate which will bring you out onto Banbury Road; you can then cross over and walk down Parks Road, continue straight ahead, crossing into Catte Street and then into Radcliffe Square. Keep going straight through the passage at the side of the University Church of St Mary The Virgin (nice cafe in the vaults -- perhaps another time), turn right onto High Street and then take the second narrow lane/passageway on the left, which is Oriel Street. In either case, you will arrive in picturesque Oriel Square, and see the entrance to the college on your left.

Should you start to feel thirsty en route, you will find three excellent pubs near the junction of Parks Road and Broad Street. The Kings Arms is on the corner of Holywell Street, The White Horse (Inspector Morse's favoured watering hole) is just 50 metres down The Broad on the right hand side, and tucked away down a narrow winding alley (Bath Place) off Holywell Street is The Turf Tavern. For other refreshment options, please consult The Scholar's Guide to Oxford.

On Tuesday evening there will be a guided walking tour of Oxford leaving from outside the porters' lodge at St Anne's College at 17:00. We will split up into small groups (no more than 10 people) for the tour, and each group will be led by a professional guide. The tour will take between one and a half and two hours.
