Buildings
The Laboratory is mainly housed in the Wolfson/eScience Building on the corner of Parks Road and Keble Road. Some of the practical facilities for undergraduate courses are located on Level 6 of the Thom Building.
Wolfson Building / eScience
The Wolfson Building is a large extension built to the rear of a 1920's terrace of converted houses in Keble Road early in 1992/93 and which was formally opened on 28 April 1994 by Sir Iain Vallance, Chairman of BT. In January 2006 the eScience Building was build to the side and rear of the Wolfson Building making a combined building with a gross size of just under 8000sq m.
The Wolfson Building was funded largely through the generosity of the Wolfson Foundation, with support from industrial collaborators such as BT, IBM (UK), Fujitsu, Rolls-Royce, Sharp Laboratories, and Sun Microsystems, together with funds from the University and the eScience Building from HEFCE funding.
The Laboratory has two 120-seat lecture theatres, several smaller seminar rooms and a large atrium social/display area within the six floors of the building, all of which are accessible to the public and can be hired for conferences and meetings. The building is shared with the Oxford e-Science Research Centre, the Life Sciences Interface Doctoral Training Centre. The majority of the rooms and all the lecture and seminar rooms have full disabled access and the seminar and lecture rooms all have hearing aid loops.
Thom Building
The undergraduate practical teaching facility of the Computing Laboratory facilities is located within the Thom Building of the Department of Engineering Science. This is a purpose built 48 workstation teaching laboratory where undergraduate practical classes are held.
