Fully Funded Doctoral Studentship in Knowledge Representation and Reasoning
Posted: 24th September 2010
The
Knowledge Representation and Reasoning
(KRR) Group is offering a fully funded D.Phil studentship in Oxford University's
Computing Laboratory. This position is associated with the
QueRe
project, under the supervision of
Professor Ian Horrocks
. The goal of the project is to design practically effective query answering
algorithms for more expressive ontology languages with features such as transitivity and equality, and to demonstrate that
advanced information systems based on such languages can be effectively deployed in applications. The project covers a broad
range of topics including logic, ontologies, databases and the semantic web.
The QueRe team will be led by Professor Horrocks and will include
Dr Boris Motik
and
Dr Peter Patel-Schneider
of
Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs.
The team will also work closely with other members of the KRR group and
with other projects, in particular the
ExODA
project.
The studentship is fully funded and is available immediately but with a start
date no later than October 1st 2011. The studentship includes a stipend of at least £13,590 per year as well as provision
for travel to conferences.
Candidates must satisfy the usual
admission requirements
for studying for a doctorate at Oxford. In addition, the students should
be skilled in theoretical computer science and in some of the above-mentioned areas, and must have good writing, communication,
presentation, and organization skills.
