The Department of Computer Science has a vacancy for a developer to work with Prof. Michael Benedikt, and postdocs Julien Leblay and Efi Tsamoura, on plans for acquiring data from Web-based datasources (e.g. Web forms and Web services). Work for this post will include: developing interfaces to web-based sources (forms and web services) for use in federating query, estimating statistics over web-based sources, and development of a GUI for describing datasources and queries.

Candidates must have a first degree in computer science or a related area along with excellent programming skills in Java along with experience working with Web services (SOAP/WSDL, JSON, REST), HTML forms, relational databases (MySQL, JDBC), and Java-based GUI development (e.g. Swing).  A background and/or interest in database systems implementation, particularly query optimization is desirable.

The post, which is a full-time appointment, is available for up to 6 months with the possibility of extension, will have a salary on the University grade 08S scale (currently £37,756 - £45,053 p.a.), will include membership of USS as well as an annual leave entitlement of 38 days per year (inclusive of all public holidays and university closed periods).
