The Quantum Group at the Department of Computer Science current has three postdoctoral research assistant positions of which two are expected to last for at least two years and one for one year, starting October 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. 

 

The positions are funded by the EPSRC Grants `A Unified Model of Compositional and Distributional Semantics: Theory and Applications' and `Quantum Mathematics and Computation', the AFORS grant `Algorithmic and Logical Aspects when Composing Meanings', and the JTF grant `Categorical Unification: where Foundational Physics, Natural Language and Rational Processes Meet. 

The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the research of the quantum group which is led by Profs Abramsky and Coecke and includes Drs Barrett, Heunen and Vicary as senior members.  Up to two positions will involve work on compositional distributional models of natural language meaning, led by Prof Coecke and Prof Pulman in the linguistics group.  More information about the quantum group and its research is available at:

The successful post-holder will be required to undertake research in this area, prepare research papers for publication and to represent the research at workshops and conferences.  Applicants must have (or shortly be expecting to obtain) a PhD in Computer Science, Physics, or a closely related field as well as experience in one of the following areas:

 - quantum information and/or mathematical physics and/or quantum foundations
 - computational linguistics and/or natural language processing
- applied logic and/or applied category theory.

The posts, which are full-time appointments, are available for up to 1-2 years, and will have a salary on the University grade 07S scale (currently £29,837 - £36,661 p.a).
