Department of Computer Science
Research Software Engineer in Computational Biology
Fixed-term for up to 9 months
Grade 7: £30,434 – £37,394 p.a., with a discretionary range to £40,847

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Software Engineer to further develop one of the core pieces of software used within the 2020 Science programme, Chaste. Chaste (Cancer, Heart and Soft Tissue Environment) is a multiscale, multiphysics simulation framework consisting of object oriented C++ libraries (www.cs.ox.ac.uk/chaste). One of the main obstacles to wider uptake of Chaste with users, both academic and industrial, is the difficulty of getting started. With many and varied dependencies, the installation process can be challenging. The technical infrastructure managing the project also makes it difficult for external users/developers to contribute back. The postholder will work to remove these barriers to adoption.

Candidates should have proven experience of: cross-platform C++ programming; Git version control system; continuous integration environments; Windows development environments/tools; and cross-platform C++ build frameworks. Good communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work within a team and independently as required.

The post is available for up to 9 months, has a salary on the University grade 07S scale (currently £30,434 – £37,394 p.a.), includes membership of the University pension scheme and has an annual leave entitlement of 38 days per year (inclusive of all public holidays and university closed periods). Requests to work on a part time or flexible basis will be considered.

*Please note that the appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to standard compulsory pre-employment screening, such as right-to-work checks*

Further details of the post, including the selection criteria and method of application are available from:

https://www.recruit.ox.ac.uk/pls/hrisliverecruit/erq_jobspec_version_4.jobspec?p_id=114751

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 15 September 2014
