Department of Computer Science

Research Assistant on NQIT Responsible Research and Innovation in ICT

Fixed-term for up to 2 years (with the possibility of extension)

Full-time

Grade 7; Salary: £30,434 – £37,394 p.a.

We are pleased to announce the opening of a Research Assistant position at Oxford University, as part of the Networked Quantum Information Technologies (NQIT) EPSRC Quantum Technology Hub. The Hub will take some of the UK’s world-leading experimental work in ion traps and photonic networks and translate it into quantum computing technology through a highly ambitious and multidisciplinary programme.

You would be working with Professor Marina Jirotka on the potential of quantum computing to transform how computation is currently conducted, to ensure that the project process and outcomes are socially desirable and ethical.  This is a unique opportunity, as these areas are as yet largely under-explored.

Applicants must have, or shortly be expecting to obtain, a doctoral degree in Physical Sciences, Computer Science, Social Science, or relevant discipline. Applicants should also have a proven record in qualitative research, including collecting and analysing ethnographic and interview data, team-working skills, and experience of large-scale multidisciplinary projects.  Experience of ethical issues on technical projects, and conducting risk and impact assessments are desirable.

The post, which is a full-time appointment, has a salary on the University grade 07S scale (currently £30,434 - £37,394) and is available for up to 2 years (with the possibility of extension). This includes membership of the University Superannuation Scheme (USS) and an annual leave entitlement of 38 days per year (inclusive of all public holidays and university closed periods).

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 19th January 2015.
