Senior Researcher on SOCIAM: The Theory and Practice of Social Machines

Applications are invited for an experienced Senior Researcher to work on the EPSRC-funded collaborative interdisciplinary project SOCIAM: The Theory and Practice of Social Machines http://sociam.org/. SOCIAM is one of the UK's most important web and computer science projects and is led by Professor Sir Nigel Shadbolt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigel_Shadbolt. The Project's core objective is to establish the research, methods, tools and collaborations to allow us to understand social machines. Social machines are assemblages of humans, machines and data at Web scale that undertake tasks beyond any individual element. SOCIAM aims to advance our understanding of social machines in order that they can be designed and deployed by the full range of potential beneficiaries. The work of the Project is highly integrative.

As the Senior Researcher, you will be expected to supervise, plan, deliver and co-ordinate the team to deliver high quality, innovative research activities in the area of social machines in close collaboration with our academic partners Southampton and Edinburgh. You should possess a PhD in computer science or related discipline and have established a strong pedigree in your area, as evidenced by publications in top quality journals and conferences. In particular, expertise in one or more of the following areas will be an advantage: web science and web technologies, web analytics, decentralised systems, linked and open data, privacy, trust and provenance, social computation.

This post is fixed-term for up to 2 years depending on start date, with a project end date of 30 November 2017.
