His research interests include crisis and incident management, security management practices, international regulation as it applies to risk management, and the convergence of physical and information security.

Biography

David is managing director of Whimbrel Management Consulting and is also reponsible for security policy, strategy and architecture at National Grid. He is a former Head of Group Information Security at Aviva, and previously the Chief Security Architect at JP Morgan Chase. He has also worked for Cap Gemini, where he led the security practice, and ICL Defence Systems where he worked in formal methods and proof tool development. His PhD, awarded in 1987, is in applied cryptography.

He is a founder and the chair of the Information Security Awareness Forum (ISAF), joint deputy chair of the ISSA-UK Advisory Board and a board member of the Institute of Information Security Professionals (IISP). He is a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists and was made a freeman of the city of London in October 2008.
