Desiree is a DPhil (PhD) student in Computer Science and a Doctoral Scholar at the Institute for Ethics in AI. She is supervised by Professor Sir Nigel Shadbolt, Chair of AI@Oxford Research. Her background is in human-centred computing and natural language processing. She is interested in AI safety and alignment across the full pipeline, from pre-training to post-training and evaluation. Her current projects focus on alignment pre-training (generously funded by BlueDot Impact) and diverse reward model ensembles (won first place in Research Impact Oxford).

Previously, Desiree completed her MSc at the University of Oxford, achieving Distinction in both her degree and thesis. Her thesis was on recommender system alignment, where she build an original NLP pipeline to measure alignment between recommendations and user behaviour. She has published at leading human-centred computing venues, namely ACM CHI and the International Journal of Human-Computer Studies, the latter of which published her Bachelor's dissertation.
