Advice to Candidates

When attending for interview, it is unwise to wear sufficient perfume that the interviewing fellow suffers an asthma attack or passes out from asphyxiation. This is a remarkably strong counter-indication when the candidate is female, but might be acceptable in an especially gifted candidate of either of the other sexes.

If you happen to have difficulty answering some question, particularly during technical interviews, it may be unwise to draw your axe, to rush around the room, and to yell foul oaths and obscenities at the interviewer. Any candidate who knowingly decapitates the interviewer during an interview is unlikely to receive invitations to further interviews at a second or third choice college although he or she may receive an offer of a place or fellowship, according to the college's judgement of the technical skill and artistic merit displayed in the performance and their opinion of the former colleague.
