Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs): hype & reality

The term "Advanced Persistent Threats" (APTs) is hyped in the media as referring to an extremely sophisticated set of groups capable of hacking into any system worldwide. In this talk, I peel back the hype and present the reality of APTs, their capabilities & their goals. I'll present a typical attack methodology used by APTs and discuss their associated tools & tactics.

Dr. Richard Gold is a security professional with both academic and industry experience. He specializes in offensive security and thinking from the attacker's perspective. He is currently working on the security of cloud services and previously he worked on cyber security for critical infrastructures, in particular for the energy sector. His experience includes risk assessment and penetration testing as well as threat intelligence research through the usage of honeypots and OSINT sources. He is a Certified SCADA Security Architect (CSSA) and holds a PhD in Computer Networking.
