A parser for pre-group grammars
Jointly supervised by Stephen Pulman and Mehrnoosh Sadzradeh.
A background of Computational Linguistics is required
Pre-group grammars are a recent grammatical formalism somewhat similar to categorial grammar. The formalism is of interest to computational linguistics because it can be assimilated to category theory, computer scientists' favourite theoretical formalism. This project is to develop a parser for pre-group grammars, and, time permitting, investigate probabilistic disambiguation for the formalism. A paper describing the formalism is at: ftp://ftp.math.mcgill.ca/pub/lambek/natlangproc.pdf
