Abstract

LogMap is a highly optimised ontology matching system developed by members of the Knowledge Representation and Reasoning Group with EPSRC funding (see http://www.cs.ox.ac.uk/projects/LogMap/index.html for details). The NCBO Bioportal (http://bioportal.bioontology.org) is a large repository of bio-medical ontologies and cross-references between them. The goal of this project is to exploit the information provided by BioPortal as background knowledge to improve ontology matching results in LogMap. Main tasks associated to the project: - Understanding how other matching tools (such as AgrMaker and GOMMA) exploit BioPortal to improve their results. - Understanding communication with Bioportal web services to query ontologies, mappings and other resources. - Understanding the LogMap's algorithm and devising a suitable way to communicate with BioPortal without harming scalability. - Implementing BioPortal access in LogMap. - Comparison with other matching tools.
