Biography

Matthew Rogers is a DPhil student in the Computer Science Department. He joined through the Centre for Doctoral Training in Cyber Security in 2018 under a Rhodes Scholarship. Matthew completed his undergraduate degree in Software Engineering at Auburn University in the USA. Before beginning the DPhil he focused on malware analysis and penetration testing, doing so with Dynetics Inc. in Huntsville AL, and Defense Digital Service in Washington D.C.

Matthew's DPhil is focused on the practical security of serial data bus networks such as CAN (Automobiles, Trains, Tanks) and MIL-STD-1553 (Fighter Jets, BART). He designs protocol specific intrusion detection systems which can be patched onto existing systems. Additionally he discovers new exploits and attacks on serial data bus protocols.
