Biography

Sydney Reis is Computer Science doctoral student jointly supervised by Professor Marina Jirotka and Professor Max Van Kleek. Her research uses ethnographic methods to understand how technology workers make sense of the geopolitical and international impacts of their work. She is also developing a technical tool to encourage this kind of reflection in the design and development of emerging technologies. Sydney has several years of experience in frontier technology and innovation policy at NATO, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Government of Canada. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario and a master’s degree in International Relations from Carleton University. She speaks English, French, Spanish, and beginner Chinese. 

Alongside her work as a DPhil student, Sydney is the Head of Research Fellowship for the Oxford China Policy Lab
