Abstract

The X-Ray project enables people to see all of the first and third parties that receive data from the smartphone apps and IoT devices in their homes, so that they can make better privacy decisions. There are several pieces to the X-Ray: the Observatory, which discovers and retrieves smartphone software such as smartphone apps, the analyser, a static analysis method for analysing these apps to derive information flow models, and end-user clients which provide visualisations and ways for people to understand these models in the context of specific privacy choices. In this project, you will be invited to extend the X-Ray in some way: such as by introducing a new module for the observatory (to ingest new kinds of content), the analyser, or a new way for end-users to view and use the models derived.
