Elisa Passini presented our research at the Safety Pharmacology Society 2018 Annual Meeting held in Washington DC, 29th September – 3rd October 2018. Elisa Passini presented a poster on: "Human in silico trials on drug-induced changes in electrophysiology and calcium dynamics, using the Virtual Assay software". Three more posters on our research will be presented by our collaborators from Amgen, Merck and UCB.
The 2018 Oxford Biomedical Imaging Festival took place at Worcester College on 28th September 2018. This event is open to all Oxford University biomedical imaging scientists, and imaging scientists in our partner institutions. Alfonso Bueno-Orovio was an invited speaker in the session “Connecting Industry with Academia”, presenting the talk entitled: “Cardiac imaging and the pharma industry".
Julià Camps presented at Computing in Cardiology 2018, took place 23rd-26th September 2018 in Maastricht, Netherlands. Julià presented "Deep Learning Based QRS Multilead Delineator in Electrocardiogram Signals" by Julià Camps, Blanca Rodríguez and Ana Mincholé. Julià was also awarded as Semi-finalist from "The Rosanna Degani Young Investigator Award".
Computing in Cardiology 2018, took place on 23rd-26th September 2018 in Maastricht, Netherlands. Peter presented "Quantification of the Anatomical Remodelling of the Ventricles of Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy Patients, an MRI Based Imaging Study" by Peter Marinov, Ernesto Zacur, Pier Lambiase, Vincente Grau, Blanca Rodriguez, Alfonso Bueno-Orovio, Michele Orini.
Francesca Margara was on secondment to Janssen Pharmaceutica (Global Safety Pharmacology Department) from 10th to 21st September 2018. This was part of the training program designed by the "Personalised In-silico Cardiology” European Innovative Training Network. The aim of the visit was to set the bases for a collaboration in her DPhil project. This was a great opportunity to present her work to the Janssen group and learn about their projects and activities.
Elisa Passini was the keynote speaker at 3Rs Midlands Symposium on 19th September 2018. Elisa Passini was invited to deliver the keynote lecture at the 3Rs Midlands Symposium 2018, at the University of Birmingham, on our research about the use of computational models of the heart for drug safety and efficacy assessment.
Cristian Trovato successfully completed the Simula summer school: "Computational cardiac Physiology: Models, Tools and Techniques for excitable tissues", arranged by the University of California San Diego, the University of Oslo and the Simula Research Laboratory.
Cristian presented his work about "The Role of the Purkinje System in Arrhythmias Onset in Rabbit Ventricles: a 3D computational study", developed in collaboration with Vladimir Sobota, from the University of Maastricht, and Hermenegild Arevalo, from Simula Research Laboratory.
The project aims to identify the mechanisms leading to ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation in rabbits, using electrophysiological simulation in 3D anatomically detailed meshes including the His-Purkinje System.
The Computational Cardiovascular Science team is attending the VPH Conference 2018, that takes place in Zaragoza, 5-7 September, 2018.
Blanca Rodriguez is a keynote speaker at the Conference. Ana Minchole is giving a talk on “Clinical MRI-based multiscale computational models of heart and torso to investigate the role of anatomy on ECG” and Hector Martinez is presenting the research on “Arrhythmogenic mechanisms in silent acute myocardial ischemia”.
Ana Minchole is an invited speaker at the Giambiagi Winter School, organized by the Physics Department at the School of Exact and Natural Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, July 30th - August 3rd, 2018. She will present the topic “The electrical activity of the heart: from single cell to the electrocardiogram”.
