On Thursday February 16 the Oxfordshire branch of the British Computing Society will host a free lecture by Professor Sir Nigel Shadbolt.

'Powers of 10: the inexorable rise of AI, social machines and the data deluge'

Abstract:

We live in an age of superabundant information with computer power increasing exponentially. There is talk of the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI). What progress has there been and what are the prospects for AI? At the same time the World Wide Web has transformed our lives. What do we understand of the resulting social machines, the blend of humans, algorithms and data at Web scale? AI and the Web are fuelled by vast amounts of data. Whilst open data improves public services and enables innovation a data deluge has its own challenges not least security and misuse. This lecture will discuss these developments and how they complement each other.

The lecture will take place on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM at Rewley House, 1 Wellington Square, Oxford
