Ismail is a senior researcher in the department, and Antoine is an associate professor in Télécom Paris. The research was initiated during Antoine's visit to Oxford last year, and has been supported by the EPSRC project ‘RealPDBs: Realistic Data Models and Query Compilation for Large-Scale Probabilistic Databases’, where Ismail is a co-investigator.

ICDT 2020 was originally planned to take place in Copenhagen, Denmark between 30th of March — 2nd of April 2020, but has been turned into an online event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the award was given as part of the online conference.
