Posted:

DeepMind, the leading British artificial intelligence company, has renewed its commitment to supporting students at the University of Oxford following the success of its scholarship programme for under-represented groups in AI.

Four more DeepMind graduate scholarships for students wishing to pursue a master’s degree in Computer Science in the Department of Computer Science will be made available for students commencing courses in 2022–23. Three of these scholarships are open to individuals ordinarily resident in the UK who belong to one or more of the following groups:

• identifying as female and/or
• of Black, Bangladeshi or Pakistani (and relevant Mixed) ethnicity and/or
• from more disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds

One scholarship will be open to students not ordinarily resident in the UK. This scholarship is open to female students and/or those ordinarily resident in a region deemed to be under-represented in the field.

A DPhil scholarship will also be funded, for a student undertaking either a DPhil in Engineering Science, a DPhil in Computer Science, or in the Autonomous Intelligent Machines and Systems EPSRC Centre of Doctoral Training (CDT). This scholarship is open to female students not ordinarily resident in the UK, or for UK residents meeting the same criteria listed above for the Masters scholarships.

Professor Leslie Ann Goldberg, Head of the Department of Computer Science, says: ‘We are very grateful to DeepMind for supporting these scholarships. Our goal is to provide an outstanding education to the best students, irrespective of their origin or background. There are still many under-represented groups in Computer Science and we are grateful to DeepMind for helping students from these groups to reach their potential.’
