Why Robots Play Football? – Alumni Weekend Lecture

Posted:

Dr Stephen Cameron, Reading in Computing Science, will be giving a lecture entitled “Why Robots Play Football” as part of this year’s Alumni Weekend.

Every year thousands of researchers from across the world pit robot against robot in competitions such as robot football. Rather than being a modern equivalent of the ivory tower, such scenarios are, in fact, designed to produce robots with practical uses – a legged football robot will find navigating around a house a doddle.

Hear about how researchers at Oxford are looking into rescue robots, devices that might be sent into dangerous or barely accessible disaster areas to look for survivors.

“Why Robots Play Football?”, The Edmond Safra Lecture Theatre, Said Business School, 11:30 – 12:45pm.
