Industrial awards for research in machine learning

Dphil Student Misha Denil and Professor Nando de Freitas received several awards to support their research on large scale distributed machine learning this term. These include:

  • A PhD Scholarship from Microsoft Research Cambridge for Misha Denil, who will be co-supervised with Antonio Criminisi at MSR Cambridge.
  • An (Amazon) AWS in Education Machine Learning Research grant to support their research with other students on distributed learning of massive Markov random fields.
  • A Windows Azure Research Pass Grant.
  • A Google Faculty Research Award.

Misha was also a finalist in the Facebook Fellowship Program.

Nando and Misha are delighted and thankful for this support, which is essential to the fruition of their research plans. This industrial support plays an important role in the advancement of science and technology.
