Code of Conduct for Online Outreach Events

All attendees to our online sessions are asked to agree to the following points to allow for everyone to have a safe and enjoyable experience. If it is the session organiser's judgement that an attendee is not not adhering to the Code of Conduct, the organiser has the right to remove the attendee from the session. The attendee may also be barred from future events:

  • When contributing to sessions, whether through written, typed or verbal discussions, attendees agree to use appropriate language and to show respect for fellow attendees’ comments. Attendees must not link to or display any inappropriate materials or content.
  • Attendees are also asked to show respect to those presenting, delivering and supporting sessions. Be kind, respectful and inclusive to everyone.
  • Attendees should not share, or request to share, theirs or others personal information to other attendees, department staff, session leaders, or supporting ambassadors.
  • Where possible attendees should arrive on time to sessions, and acknowledge that where they are late, they may not be able to be admitted.
  • We ask that attendees follow all signing-in instructions for online sessions. For example, an attendee’s name may be requested to ensure the correct attendees are in a session.
  • We ask that attendees do not share any links to our online sessions with others.
  • During sessions attendees may be asked to blur their backgrounds, or to keep their cameras/microphones off. All attendees in sessions which require cameras to be on should make sure that their background is appropriate. For example, we ask that attendees check to make sure that there aren’t personal or inappropriate/offensive posters in their background. Please also make sure your attire is appropriate.
  • The department does not usually record sessions and would ask full participant permission in advance, where we intend to record.
  • All attendees are asked to not record, take photos or screenshots of sessions. Some session leaders may be able to provide PDF copies of an online session.

Safeguarding

Online sessions for those under 18 will always include at least one DBS checked member of staff.

If you have a safeguarding or other concern during one of our online sessions, please contact our outreach team using the email address outreach@cs.ox.ac.uk. Any reports will be dealt with discretely and in accordance with University safeguarding procedures.
