Our Aims:
In line with Oxford's Mission to widen access to higher education, the Department of Computer Science helps students from all backgrounds explore Computer Science, university study and life at Oxford. Through workshops, taster days and events, we aim to inspire curiosity, build confidence and support prospective students in making informed choices about their future. We also provide guidance and resources for teachers, families and guardians.

Computer Science Events
Discover Computer Science
Open to: Students of black and mixed heritage who identify as female in Year 11 (15-16) from UK State schools

A sustained engagement programme for Year 11 (15–16 year olds, Scottish S5 or NI Y12) students of black and mixed heritage who identify as female. Led by members of Oxford University’s Department of Computer Science and Christ Church, these sessions will explore topic areas outside of the school curriculum, combine theory with interactive exploration, and help students explore the world of Computer Science with the hope of inspiring them to continue their engagement with the subject.

Masterclasses in Computer Science
Open to: Year 9s, from UK schools

The Masterclasses in Computer Science are a series of workshops designed to inspire and engage young people in Computer Science. Each session is led by enthusiastic speakers from industry, academia and education and introduce aspects not usually covered in the school curriculum. The series of six saturday morning masterclasses will each last around two and a half hours, and be led by different speakers on various computer science topics. The Masterclass series is aimed at year 9 students, from state schools in Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Swindon, Gloucestershire and Buckinghamshire. Participants must be nominated by their school. Participants are expected to attend all six sessions.

UNIQ: Computer Science
Open to: Year 12s, at UK State Schools

This UNIQ course is a taste of the mathematical, scientific and engineering principles underlying every kind of computing system.
To be a good Computer Science student, you need to have a curiosity about how things work and the ability to use maths to solve problems.
Throughout the course, you will be introduced to theories and concepts in lectures, supported by smaller group discussions. You may have the chance to learn and write programs, as well as exploring new areas of maths beyond that studied at school.
The undergraduate Computer Science course at Oxford University teaches you about the theoretical principles underpinning current computing technology, and how those principles relate to a wide range of software and hardware technologies. Experiencing the life of an undergraduate Computer Scientist through UNIQ, you will gain practical problem-solving and program design skills that will stand the test of time in a rapidly evolving field. Your ambassadors will support you as you acquire the fundamental understanding and practical skills needed by future leaders within Computer Science.

Oxford Online Maths Club
Open to: all
Our friends over at the Oxford Maths Institute will be livestreaming one hour of maths problems, puzzles, mini-lectures, and Q&A. It’s free, interactive, casual, and relaxed, with an emphasis on solving problems, building fluency, and looking ahead at links to university.

Oxford MAT livestreams

Are you thinking of applying to study Mathematics at university? In 2026 The Mathematical Institute are running a weekly livestream with maths problems and problem-solving strategies, with a focus on the Test of Mathematics for University Admission (TMUA) and mathematics interviews. The sessions are free and available for everyone, and are recorded so that you can watch them later even if you can't join us live. No registration needed.

It All Adds Up is run by the Mathematical Institute and is for female and non-binary students at UK schools. The day is to inspire young women to continue with Maths education.

PROMYS Europe
Open to: Pre-University Students aged 16+ (from UK & Europe)
Date of next event: Applications for 2027 will open in January
PROMYS Europe is a mathematics summer programme to encourage mathematically ambitious students aged 16+ to explore the creative world of mathematics. Participants (who come from across Europe) tackle fundamental mathematical questions within a richly stimulating and supportive community of fellow first-year students, returning students, undergraduate counsellors, research mentors, faculty, and visiting mathematicians. Past guest lecturers have included Professors Sir Andrew Wiles, Sir Roger Penrose, Ben Green, and Simon Singh.
Lectures, discussions, and problem sets are in English. Applicants should possess English language skills which are strong enough to enable full participation

Oxford Maths Festival
Open to: all families with children ages 5-13

The Oxford Maths Festival (organised by Oxford Mathematics) is an extravaganza of all the wonderful curiosities mathematics holds. Over two days you can immerse yourself in a wide range of events, with something for everyone, no matter your age or prior mathematical experience. Suitable for families with children ages 5-13.

Primary Science Days 2026
Open to: Year 5s, at UK State Schools.

This is an invitation-only opportunity run by the Oxford Hub through the School's Plus Primary Twinning Programme.
Students and teachers are invited to a full day science event at the 'twinned' Oxford Colleges on in the City of Oxford. The days, hosted by St John's, St Anne's, Lincoln, and Trinity Colleges includes exciting hands‐on workshops, a curriculum-relevant lecture-demonstration, and opportunities to meet current undergraduate students and scientists.
The Computer Science outreach team, in partnership with the wider MPLS department, will be running a range of workshops for the participating schools hoping to engage local students with science outside of school.
