On−the−fly and Context−Aware Integration of Heterogeneous Data Sources

Giorgio Orsi and Letizia Tanca

Abstract

Users and applications of today’s networked enterprises are often interested in high-quality, integrated information coming from external data sources, whose worth is often flawed by the information noise produced by unfocused or partial information. In this chapter we describe an ontology-driven framework for dynamic data integration of heterogeneous data sources, where user and application queries are dealt with in a context-aware fashion, i.e., by taking into account contextual meta-data about the system and the users in order to keep the information noise at bay.
