Interests

My doctoral thesis is based on the modelling of protein distribution and movement within membranes. I am currently investigating the validity and efficacy of various simulation approaches, both lattice-based and off-lattice, and exploring the potential for creation of hybrid models. My work centres around the desire to incorporate features of molecular-level appraoches, such as Molecular Dynamics, into the mesocopic simulations on which I work. This aspect of my thesis is facilitated by a collaboration with the Structural Biochemistry and Computational Bioinformatics group, based in the Biochemistry Department at Oxford.

I have also worked on simulating arteriole and airway smooth muscle cells (SMCs). This project looked specifically at the contraction of the SMCs in the presence of calcium or agonist and how this leads to the constriction of the arterioles and airways.
