Biography

I am responsible for coordinating the Department of Computer Science's work on equiality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), including work on the Athena Swan Charter, a framework used to support and advance gender equality within higher education and research. Computer Science currently holds an Athena Swan Bronze Award. I support the department's Director for Academic Environment (Reuben Binns) - our academic lead for EDI, and collaborate with a wide range of staff and students on EDI-related activities and strategic planning.

I can be contacted about equality, diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing in the department.

I first joined the University in 2015 as a first-generation undergraduate student from a low-income household, studying English Language and Literature at Hertford College. I previously participated in the UNIQ summer school while studying towards my A-Levels (Oxford's access programme for state school students). As an undergraduate, my experience of living with social anxiety disorder in particular led me to become involved with the Oxford Student Union's Disabilities Campaign, chairing the campaign for a year. I also developed an interest in disability studies during this time, exploring how disability is portrayed within fairytales and folklore, and disabled embodiment on stage within my English coursework and dissertation, graduating in 2019.

After working in several of the University's departments via the Temporary Staffing Service, I joined the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences on a permanent basis in 2019 as an HR Assistant, spending two years there before moving to the Department of Sociology as a Senior HR Officer in 2021. I have also undertaken several part-time secondments with the University's HR Policy Team between 2022 and 2024, supporting areas of policy development and review. I joined Computer Science in October 2022. I am currently working towards a CIPD Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic People Management, due to be completed in August 2024 - within my studies, I am particularly interested in exploring how employee voice and culture change can positively contribute towards achieving both EDI and wider organisational objectives.
