Enhancing Cyber Security through Self-Learning Streaming Analytics

Cyber security touches our lives daily, whether it's protecting our national infrastructure, monitoring payment systems, or securing personal computers and devices.  Signature based methods common today in Cyber security systems are insufficient to stop cybercrime, calling for the use of behavioral analytics to detect threat and prevent loss of data.  Real-time streaming analytics, well-utilized in payment fraud detection, are ideally suited to the detection of Cyber threat.  During this talk, we will explore streaming behavioral analytic methods including transaction profiling, collaborative profiles, behavior sorted lists, and multi-layered self-calibrating analytic models. These analytic technologies when used in combination enable the construction of novel self-learning streaming Cyber analytic models.

Scott Zoldi is a Vice President of Analytic Science at FICO responsible for the analytic development of FICO’s transaction analytics products and solutions, including the FICO™ Falcon® Fraud Manager product which protects about two thirds of the world’s payment card transactions from fraud. While at FICO, Scott has been responsible for authoring 54 analytic patents with 34 granted and 20 in process related to fraud and streaming transaction analytics. Scott is actively involved in the development of new analytic products and Big Data analytics applications, many of which leverage new streaming analytic innovations such as adaptive analytics, global intelligent profiles, and self-calibrating analytics. Scott is most recently focused on the applications of streaming self-learning analytics to detect command and control Botnet activity to allow real-time detection of Cyber Security attack. Scott received his Ph.D. in theoretical and computational physics from Duke University.

Scott also serves on the board of directors for Software San Diego and is on the executive board for the San Diego Cyber Center of Excellence.
