Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) - security, privacy and related standardisation issues

Connected Vehicles, Connected Autonomous Vehicles and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) are often used interchangeably; however there are some settle differences.  This talk focuses on ITS and its related road safety application security and privacy. It highlights the scalability issues in ITS (hundreds of millions of cars/smart phones) and the ease of insider attacks due to the broadcast nature safety messages. It presents some suggestions for ITS privacy, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) design and discusses their impact on network performance.

Speaker bio

Dr. Haitham Cruickshank, senior lecturer at the Institute for Communication Systems (ICS), University of Surrey, Guildford UK. He worked there since January 1996 on several UK and European research projects. He leads the Surrey team in the PETRAS IoT Hub on cyber security. He also work several security related projects in the ICT and ESA programmes. He was a member of ETSI STF 423, worked on ITS security and privacy specifications. His main research interests are security/privacy for networks/user/information plus future network architecture in mobile, satellite and Internet. He also teaches in the security, Internet networking and satellite courses at University of Surrey.
