Computational multiscale modelling of traumatic brain injury

Prof. Antoine Jérusalem ( Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford )

Traumatic brain injury is establishing itself as a global problem.  Computational models both at the cell and tissue levels have been proposed to attempt to capture some of the intrinsic mechanisms leading to trauma in head impact, acceleration or blast. However, a scalable link between mechanical deformation and functional damage is still missing. In this talk, we propose a general framework defining different simulation techniques at different scales, establishing multiscale methods to link them, and directly relating mechanical deformation to electrophysiological deficit.
