Abstract:
How do you keep a system with 1.7 billion users both secure and (mostly) spam-free? This talk will describe some of the biggest challenges in spam prevention and security at Facebook, as well as going into more details about one specific mechanism - our system for detecting compromised passwords - and how we use it to prevent phishing attacks

Bio:
John Lyle is a software engineer working on Facebook's spam prevention and account security teams. For the last three years, John has worked on improvements to Facebook's systems for preventing phishing attacks and on detecting the spread of malicious software. Before working at Facebook, John was a post-doctoral researcher and DPhil student at the Department of Computer Science at The University of Oxford, where he researched mobile web application security and trusted computing. John also holds an MEng degree in Computing from Imperial College London.
