Engineering Simulation and Design: New Opportunities for Computer Science

Jarek Rzepecki & Daniel Bates ( Monumo )

The last two decades have seen the introduction of new techniques that could revolutionise the process of engineering design. Modern pipelines based on parallelisation and machine learning offer the possibility of finding optimal designs searching over vast spaces of configurations; something that was unimaginable when much of the existing software was designed. In this talk I describe four ideas that are fundamental to our plans in Monumo: the use of geometric algebra, machine learning, mesh-free simulation, and the Julia programming environment. Each plays a key role in constructing a modern simulation pipeline.
