DPhil student Bushra AlAhmadi wins Google Anita Borg Scholarship

Computer Science DPhil student Bushra AlAhmadi has been awarded a 2016 Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship. She will receive a $10,000 scholarship, and will attend the Google Scholarship Retreat in July in Zurich, Switzerland.  She is one of only two students in the UK to receive an award. 

Bushra is undertaking her doctorate in the field of cyber security, where her research explores malware detection using Software Defined Networks (SDN).    She is the president of the Oxford Women in Computer Science Society (OxWoCs.)  Before coming to Oxford, Bushra studied at the university of Santa Clara, USA and King Saud University, Saudi Arabia. She is now based at Kellogg College, Oxford. 

The Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship was first launched in 2004. In an effort to encourage women to excel in STEM subjects Google, through the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship, offers support to women in Africa, Europe and the Middle-East in their senior studies in an ICT-related field.  The scholarship honours late Doctor Anita Borg, a pioneer in computer science who founded the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology.
