Postdoctoral Researcher on Dynamic Functional Aggregate Queries (DFAQ)
Fixed-term for 1 year, with the possibility of extension for up to 2 years
Grade 7:
£31,076 - £32,004 p.a.

We are pleased to announce the availability for a full-time postdoctoral Researcher for up to 1 year, with the possibility of extension for up to 2 years. This project is to investigate theoretical and practical aspects of dynamic computation of functional aggregate queries, a generalization of incremental maintenance for database queries.

As a researcher on this project, you will be part of a group of enthusiastic researchers at both postdoctoral and doctoral level who together with Principal Investigator Dan Olteanu and his academic and industrial collaborators, are working within the factorized database project funded by an ERC consolidator grant. You will be expected to undertake some or all of the following duties; to investigate fundamental challenges in scalable data management at the confluence of succinct factorized representations of relational data, distributed processing, and approximate processing of query and machine learning workloads; and/to build a system that incorporates the techniques and algorithmic insights on distributed and approximate processing of factorized data.

You should have a PhD (or be near completion) in Computer Science with a documented track record of the ability to conduct and complete research projects, in the areas of database theory, database systems, or closely related areas. You will be able to manage your own research projects and possess excellent communication skills, to write for publication and present research to others.  Experience of actively collaborating in the development of research articles for publication is highly desirable.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Monday 3rd July.

The post, which is a full time appointment, is funded by Fondation Philippe Wiener-Maurice Anspach. It has a salary on the University grade 07S scale (currently £31,076 - £32,004 p.a.). This includes membership of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) and has an annual leave entitlement of 38 days per year (inclusive of all public holidays and university closed periods).
