Workshop to focus on enabling mathematical cultures

The final workshop of the EPSRC-funded project ‘Social Machines of Mathematics’ will focus on 'enabling mathematical cultures' on 5-7 December at the Mathematics Institute.

The workshop will celebrate the success of the 'Social Machines of Mathematics' project led by Professor Ursula Martin at the University of Oxford, and build on the recent ‘Mathematical Cultures’ workshop series .It will explore the social nature of mathematical knowledge production, through analysis of historical and contemporary examples of mathematical practice.

The aim is to bring together a diverse range of scholars to discuss the socio-cultural, historical, technological and philosophical aspects of mathematical practice.
