An excellent opportunity has arisen within the Department of Computer Science for a highly motivated, proactive and professional HR Manager. Working closely with the Senior Administrator and Head of Department, they will support and advise at all levels, planning and implementing activities which contribute to the achievement of the department’s priorities. The HR Manager will be responsible for the line management of a small team of four staff, who are committed to achieving the highest standards of quality across a busy and varied workload. This is an extremely rewarding role, with opportunities to really make a difference. 

On a day-to-day basis, the HR Manager will be responsible for high quality administrative and advisory services to the department, including managing an employee relations case load, as well as managing the monthly payroll processes for main and casual staff and all recruitment campaigns for academic, research and support staff. The HR Manager will be an active member of the department’s Equality and Diversity Committee and will fully contribute to the Department’s Athena SWAN plan and associated activities.  

The ideal candidate will be an Associate Member of the CIPD (Level 5 or above), and have experience of working within a large, complex organisation. You will have sound knowledge and experience of applying UK employment law and policies to a range of staffing issues and of managing an employee relations case load. With strong interpersonal skills, you will provide efficient and high quality advice to staff and line managers at all levels, with the ability to influence senior managers and academics. You will be highly organised, able to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines and to adapt to changing needs with flexibility and resilience. This is a busy role in a great team, we are therefore seeking a candidate who is skilled at line managing and developing high-performing HR teams. Chartered Membership of the CIPD, experience of working with the Athena SWAN charter, and of championing support and understanding for mental health and wellbeing would be advantageous.
