Posted: 16th July 2026
Graham Cormode, Professor of Computer Science, has been appointed Research Theme Lead for AI Futures at the Oxford-UBS Centre for Applied AI.
Professor Cormode's research focuses on one of the defining challenges of the AI era: how to learn from increasingly large volumes of data while maintaining privacy, trust and data quality. His work spans trustworthy AI, data privacy and large-scale data analysis, and his research has helped shape widely used approaches to data summarisation and privacy-preserving analytics, with applications at organisations including AT&T, Apple, X, and Meta.
As Research Theme Lead for AI Futures, Professor Cormode will help guide the Centre's work on developing AI systems that can generate valuable insights whilst protecting privacy, maintaining trust and safeguarding the integrity of the information on which they depend. This research supports the development of AI systems that meet high standards of safety and security, providing an important foundation for responsible AI governance in financial services and other sectors.
The Oxford-UBS Centre for Applied AI is a partnership between the University of Oxford and UBS, bringing together researchers from Saïd Business School and the University's MPLS Division to advance understanding of AI through cutting-edge research and its practical application.
