Oxford/CAS Sixth Form Conference Announced

Oxford University and the Computing at School group are joining forces to offer a one-day taster course that will give Sixth Form students a fantastic insight into the fascinating and highly innovative world of Computer Science:

•        meet some robots & explore the future – find out about how today’s computer scientists are influencing all our futures

•        find out what Computer Science really is – and how it is different from IT taught in schools

•       do some programming – try out our hands-on activities

•       visit an Oxford college – find out what its really like to live and study at Oxford

The day will combine lectures, demonstrations and a practical hands-on session.  Speakers will include Oxford University lecturers and researchers in Computer Science, plus guest speakers currently working in the IT industry. 

Audience

This event is open to sixth form students from UK schools and colleges and their teachers.  Students should have a proven flair for Maths, Science or Computer Science.  Max. 10 students per school; there is no minimum.  This event is designed primarily for year 12 and 13 students, but exceptional year 11 students may also be admitted.

Oxford University Computing Laboratory, Wolfson Building, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QD, Tuesday 22nd March 2011, 9:15 – 3:15pm. The event is free. Booking essential.
