Women in Computer Science Day announced

Posted:

Negative stereotyping of computer scientists as "geeks who stay up all night coding and who have no social life" may be driving girls away from the field, according to research in a recent issue of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

Oxford University's Computer Science department is delighted to welcome Year 10 girls from UK schools and their teachers (or parents) to a Computer Science Taster Day, which aims to tackle some of these myths. The day is designed to raise awareness of what Computer Science is at university level.

The day will combine short talks and practical hands-on sessions. Speakers and session-leaders will include Oxford University lecturers and researchers. Please be aware that the day doesn't include sessions on the admissions process, the courses we offer etc.

Tuesday 28th June, 9:30am — 3:30pm. Free. Booking essential.
