Dark Blues storm to Boat Race victory

Posted:

Oxford University's Blue boat jumped out to an immediate lead and held it throughout to win the 159th Boat Race, beating Cambridge by a length and a half.

Congratulations to all those involved, and especially to Computer Scientist Paul Bennett in the No. 5 seat.  Paul is currently studying for an MSc in Computer Science with us.

The dark blues, who chose the Surrey side of the river after winning the toss, started quickly and never trailed, pushing hard to shake off a lighter but tenacious Cambridge crew, taking victory in a time of 17 minutes and 28 seconds.

Oxford completed a clean sweep of Cambridge after the women took the Women's Boat Race at Dorney Lake and the Isis crew (featuring Computer Science DPhil student William Zeng) beat Goldie by one-third of a length earlier in the day.

Congratulations to all those involved in a great set of races.

The 2013 Boat Race was sponsored by BNY Mellon.
