Industry Seminar Series: From Morgan Stanley to Silicon Valley: A talk and Q&A with Ashwin Rao on career options for Computer Science students

Abstract: 

Ashwin Rao is a Computer Scientists who spent 10 years as an MD on Wall Street before packing his bags and heading to Silicon Valley, California to set up his own tech-start up – ZLemma, that matches STEM students with jobs in industry using unique algorithms.

 

After giving talks at Stamford, MIT and Colombia, Ashwin will host a special seminar for Oxford University’s Computer Science department, looking at the incredible range of career opportunities open to Computing students.

 

During his talk he will field questions from delegates as well as give his advice and views on:

 

·           Working in the Valley – job opportunities in Silicon Valley for computer scientists and turning your idea into a new career

·           Science in the City – why Computer Science degrees are in such high demand by the world largest banks and how you can make yourself a good candidate

·           Techy jobs in non-techy places – from designing supermarket store layouts to optimising manufacturing processes, why the analytical and numerical skills of computing students are in demand from unexpected places
