Towards General Artificial Intelligence

Founded in 2011 in London, Google DeepMind is a unique environment for long-term ambitious research to flourish in. This talk gives an overview of how their interdisciplinary team has made a number of high profile advances towards general AI by combining the best techniques from deep learning, reinforcement learning and systems neuroscience to build powerful general-purpose learning algorithms.

 

Speaker bio

Julien Cornebise, PhD, Senior Research Scientist. After two MSc in CS Engineering and in Mathematical Statistics with highest honours, he completed his PhD in Mathematical Statistics at University Pierre et Marie Curie in 2009 with Pr. Eric Moulines on Adaptive Sequential Monte Carlo Methods, for which he received the Savage Award in Theory and Methods from the International Society for Bayesian Analysis in 2010. He then held several research positions at SAMSI/Duke University and University of British Columbia with Pr. Arnaud Doucet, and University College London, working on advanced computational statistics. Prior to joining DeepMind in 2012 Julien has acted as an applied mathematics and statistics consultant to various pharmaceutical companies.
