1) There will be TWO EXTERNAL LECTURES:

Prof Martyn Thomas, on Thursday 10 June at 12:00,
in Lecture Theater A ;

ABSTRACT:
The first duty of any professional is to be competent, yet most
software development projects overrun significantly and around a quarter of them get cancelled before delivery. Does this
mean that most developers are incompetent?

Martyn Thomas set up the software company Praxis, which is widely
regarded as a leader in software industry. He has also examined many failing and failed projects in his career as a consultant
and expert witness. In this talk, he describes the top issues he has found in failed projects, gives a few examples, and invites
discussion on what an ethical software engineer can do to improve the situation.

Prof Luciano Floridi, on Monday
