Abstract

Through a prior collaboration, we have built a motorised satellite dish capable of tracking objects in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), which will be used as a component of our upcoming satellite discovery and monitoring system. In this project, you
will extend existing work writing FPGA images for Software Defined Radios to allow them to scan on a much wider range of frequencies than usually possible, significantly expanding the system’s monitoring capabilities and enabling passive
discovery of satellite communication.

Interested students should be experienced working with low-level languages, and prior experience working with FPGAs or a willingness to quickly pick up the topic. No prior experience with radio communication is required.

For a related project working with communication protocols and the physical layer, see “LEO Satellite Reconnaissance and Monitoring”.
