Associate Professorship (TF) of Programming Languages

Salary on a scale from £45,562 per annum (plus substantial additional benefits, including housing allowance of £8,342 p. a. or single accommodation in college if available. An allowance of £2,655 p.a. would be payable upon award of Full Professor title).

Applications are invited for the post of Associate Professor (or Professor) of Programming Languages to be held in the Department of Computer Science, with effect from October 2017 as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will also be appointed to a Tutorial Fellowship at Worcester College. The appointment will be based at the Department of Computer Science, Wolfson Building, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QD and Worcester College, Worcester Street, Oxford, OX1.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant and rapidly growing computer science department, with a long history of fundamental research in the area of programming languages. They will benefit from a rich academic environment for computer science research, with many researchers working in closely related areas.  The Associate Professor’s research will focus on Programming Languages, and they will contribute to teaching on the Department’s highly successful undergraduate and graduate programmes. At the same time the appointee will have many opportunities to interact with academics in other disciplines as part of Oxford’s unique collegiate system.

Applications are invited from outstanding individuals whose research falls within the area of Programming Languages. Applications from researchers who would establish new research directions within the department are particularly encouraged. Applicants should hold a PhD in computer science and will have a proven track record in research of the highest international standard – e.g., as substantiated by publications in relevant leading conferences and journals.

Applicants will have the ability to attract research funding and to develop an independent research programme, as well as have experience of and excellence, or the potential for excellence, in teaching a wide range of topics in computer science at undergraduate and graduate levels, the ability to contribute to course development, to supervise graduate students, and to provide pastoral care, and the ability and willingness to undertake administrative duties.
