Researcher on FADAMS: Foundations of Factorised Data Management Systems
Fixed term for up to 2 years, starting as soon as possible, with the possibility of extension until 31 May 2021
Grade 7: Salary £31,604 – £38,833 p.a. 

The Department of Computer Science has a superb new opportunity for a full time Researcher on the FADAMS (Foundations of Factorised Data Management Systems) project, for up to 2 years, with the possibility of extension until 31 May 2021, working with Professor Dan Olteanu and his academic and industrial collaborators.   

As a researcher on this project, you will investigate fundamental challenges in scalable data management at the confluence of structural compression, distribution, and approximation for database and machine learning workloads and will build a system that incorporates the techniques and algorithmic insights on distributed and approximate processing of factorized data. You will hold a relevant Ph.D. /D.Phil. in Computer Science (OR be close to completion), together with research expertise and familiarity with the existing literature in at least one of the following areas: theoretical computer science, databases, algorithms, distributed systems, and machine learning.

The post, which is a full time, fixed-term appointment, is funded by ERC and is available for up to 2 years as soon as possible (with the possibility of extension until 31 May 2021), has a salary on the University grade 07S scale (currently £31,604 – £38,833 p.a.).  This includes membership of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) and has an annual leave entitlement of 38 days per year (inclusive of all public holidays and university closed periods).
