The Oxford Research Software Engineering Group at the Department of Computer Science is looking to recruit a Research Software Engineer (RSE) to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to join our newly formed group which we expect to grow significantly over the next few years to meet the huge demand we have found for RSE expertise from within the university. We will offer new recruits the potential to advance their career and to make a significant contribution to the development of good software practices at a world-leading university.

We work with other research groups across the University of Oxford to create, improve and maintain software used for scientific research and translational projects, as well as providing consulting and training to other researchers on best practices in software development and reproducible research.

You will work on a variety of world-class research projects across the University of Oxford, deliver workshops and training in software development best practices, and further develop your own technical and research skills as well as skills outside of software development, such as project management and consultancy.

We are looking for candidates with a doctoral degree with a significant computational component, who have had significant experience developing software in a research setting and who are able to collaborate effectively with other researchers in order to design and implement reliable and maintainable software solutions to pressing scientific questions.  Knowledge of and experience with common software design patterns, ability to contribute ideas for new research projects and research income generation, and experience designing and/or delivering training courses are highly desirable.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 18 February 2019. Interviews are expected to be held on 27 February 2019.
