We are looking for an experienced researcher to join the ongoing HICLASS research project. HICLASS is an Innovate UK collaboration between academic institutions and industry, developing the next generation of technologies for avionics systems. The University of Oxford is a contributor of systems security expertise to the project, under the direction of Prof. Ivan Martinovic. The research group is involved in assessing viable attacks on aviation communications and avionics systems and in developing detection mechanisms against such attacks.
This is a full-time post for 1 year, with the possibility of extension subject to funding.
The key duties of the post are:
- Manage own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines
- Adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols
- Contribute ideas for new research projects
- Collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and occasionally present papers and posters
- Represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members of the group or alone
- Carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups
The primary place of work will be at the Department of Computer Science. Occasional travel is also expected, within the UK to attend project meetings and worldwide to present research results.
The successful candidate will be expected to have a relevant Ph.D/D.Phil (or close to completion) in Computer Science or related discipline, together with relevant experience.
The primary selection criteria are sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within the research programmes; the ability to manage one’s own research and administrative activities; and excellent communication skills. Experience of working in a research team, contributing ideas for new research projects and a track record of publications in the research area is highly desirable.
