The Department of Computer Science and Wolfson College, at the University of Oxford, are delighted to offer this opportunity for an outstanding researcher of high international standing, who has a track record of research that has significantly influenced the field of computer science, and can demonstrate the vision, leadership and enthusiasm to maintain and develop an internationally leading research programme in this field, and to further the academic and strategic development of the department.
The Strachey Professorship is the oldest chair in the Department of Computer Science, and is named for Christopher Strachey, who founded Oxford’s Programming Research Group in 1965. There have previously been two holders of this post, Sir Tony Hoare and Professor Samson Abramsky.
The University of Oxford’s Department of Computer Science has broad strengths across the spectrum of computer science from theoretical computer science to systems and applications. It is one of the country’s leading computer science departments and is ranked first in a number of international rankings.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding, internationally recognised researcher in computer science, with a proven record of research achievement. They will establish and lead a research team in their area of expertise and will also play a leading role in further developing computer science at Oxford.
The post is available with effect from 1 September 2022. The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Monday 28 February 2022.
